Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, learners will be able to:

  • 1) To be able to accurately assess post traumatic deformity with standard radiographic measurements and physical examination techniques and to be able to determine any underlying additional deformities that may impede a successful correction.
  • 2) To be able to accurately plan deformity correction using the osteotomy rules
  • 3) To be able to accurately plan and execute successful deformity correction with a variety of techniques including fixator assisted nailing, plating and external fixator correction.
  • 4) To be able to successfully manage soft tissue and joint problems that arise with post traumatic deformity correction.
  • 5) Learning the basic concepts for successful management of post traumatic limb length discrepancies and segmental bone defects

Statement of Need/Description/or Summary of Gap Analysis

This webinar will provide the skills needed for the orthopaedic traumatologist to successfully take care of deformity that occurs following initial fracture care. 

Instructional Format: Online webcast consisting of slides and audio.

Method of Participation: There are no fees for members to participate in this activity. Non-members must pay $40. To participate in the activity, physicians will be required to take the following steps:

  • Read the learning objectives and faculty disclosures.
  • Participate in the activity.
  • Complete the activity evaluation.
  • Participants who successfully complete the evaluation will receive AMA PRA Category 1.5 Credits™.

06/29/2022 at 9:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 06/29/2022 This 3-hour 2-part webinar is for the orthopaedic traumatologist who is interested in learning the basic concepts involved in successful post traumatic deformity analysis and correction The first part of the series will discuss basic concepts involved in post-traumatic deformity analysis and planning. Standard techniques in radiographic analysis and preoperative planning will be introduced in the first part of the series with case examples to demonstrate concepts. The second part of the series will focus on techniques for deformity correction including fixator assisted plating, fixator assisted nailing and external fixator correction of deformities. Joint contractures and soft tissue considerations in deformity correction will be presented. Additional topics include Basic principles in treating post traumatic limb length discrepancy and segmental bone defects. Case based examples will be used to demonstrate concepts.
