The 2026 OTA Resident Advanced Case Controversies course will be held Saturday, September 26 at the Music City Center. The Advanced Case Controversies course is designed for PGY 4-5 residents, to explore complex and challenging cases in the field. Through small group discussions and case presentations from renowned guest speakers, participants will engage in critical thinking around some impactful topics in orthopedic practice.

- Nonunion/Infection
- Disasters Around Hips
This course will foster in-depth discussions and the exchange of insights and experiences. Attendees will leave with a stronger foundation in navigating these controversial and high-stakes cases, ready to apply new knowledge to their own practice.
Target Audience: This course targets PGY4 - PGY5’s, but others who have completed the OTA Residents Comprehensive Fracture Course or equivalent and feel they will benefit are not excluded.

The Archdeacon Resident Comprehensive Fracture Course will be held September 23 thru September 25 at the Omni Hotel in Nashville, TN. The course will be presented in eight separate small group modules, with approximately twenty residents and up to 5 expert faculty educators per module. The modules will have a rapid-fire series of mini-lectures, an extensive open case-based discussion, and hands-on skills lab exercises. Modules will cover fundamental principles of fracture care distributed among eight topics.

Target Audience: We encourage PGY 1-3’s to attend, as well as others who may benefit. PAs or NPs are welcome to attend, however, we request that any PAs or NPs attend the OTA Orthopaedic Trauma for PAs and NPs course prior.

Geriatric fractures and periprosthetic fractures are on the rise. Studies highlight arthroplasty as the optimal treatment for specific fractures, including geriatric femoral head and neck fractures, proximal and distal humerus fractures, and distal femur fractures. Additionally, some periprosthetic fractures necessitate revision arthroplasty alongside ORIF to ensure successful outcomes and reduce complications.
Orthopaedic trauma surgeons, while trained in arthroplasty during residency, often feel unprepared in practice. The growing trend of outpatient arthroplasty further emphasizes the need for trauma surgeons to handle acute fractures efficiently, enabling early mobilization and minimizing complications related to surgical delays.
This three-day course is designed to provide trauma surgeons with the expertise to address these challenges confidently.
Learning Outcomes
- Recognize indications for acute and revision arthroplasty in upper and lower extremity fractures.
- Master surgical techniques for primary arthroplasty in upper and lower extremity fractures.
- Apply surgical techniques for revision arthroplasty combined with fixation in fractures.
- Minimize complications in fractures treated with primary arthroplasty and periprosthetic fractures.
