This webinar will answer the question: "What is Acute Care Orthopedics?" Three orthopedists will describe their journey from private practice to employed orthopedic hospitalist.

The focus of this webinar will be case-based discussions on periarticular bone loss involving the upper and lower extremities. We will include a limited didactic/lecture component for additional details regarding specific techniques.

Webinar faculty who have all added complex procedures (hip preservation, shoulder arthroplasty, and soft tissue flaps) to their practice will share their experiences, process, and lessons learned. Each added to their practice for different reasons and with different methods. Each will give a lecture outlining the process they utilized with the moderator interjecting with questions to stimulate group discussion about key and/or controversial points. Each presenter will go over early cases they took on and then how they progressed to more complex cases.

This webinar will address the mental health (thoughts, emotions) and social circumstances that can be associated with slower and less complete recovery from injury. We will describe factors important to successful recovery, how to recognize them, and what to say and do. We will also brainstorm strategies for development of comprehensive, biopsychosocial health programming to optimize recovery.

This will be a series of lectures followed by interactive Q&A with the audience on advocacy issues.

This webinar will cover several topics associated with civilian ballistic orthopaedic trauma injuries including acute treatment of fractures cause by bullets (are they open or closed), management of soft tissue defects associated with entry and exit wounds, treatment of associated vascular and neurologic injury, management of diaphyseal fractures, and management of articular injuries. The webinar will be a combination of case based, audience response, and didactic presentations.

This course will address the controversial area of complex elbow fracture-dislocations, specifically trans-olecranon fracture-dislocations and Monteggia variants. There is little agreement on what constitutes each of these injuries and the appropriate management algorithm. This webinar will clarify the description and classification of these injuries, delineate different approaches for different patterns, and address the technical aspects of fixation, including sequencing of the components of the injury and implant selection. It will be 3-4 short didactic lectures (8-10 minutes each) followed by ample time for case presentations and discussion.

This will be a case-based course where we will discuss interesting cases and indications for humeral nailing. Each faculty with have cases that highlights indications, technical pearls, and how to minimize complications. Each case will highlight known complications such as shoulder pain, non-unions, NV injury, mal reductions, etc. and ways to minimize such complications. We will go over operative techniques on how to improve the ease of the procedure as well.
