The course includes lectures, cadaveric lab exercise, and case-based learning. It is very interactive, fast-paced, and engaging. 

There will be several “lectures” that we hope you find interesting and are germane to our field.  Thursday afternoon we’ll discuss pelvic fractures and tips for your practice.  Thursday afternoon will include a great session on practice issues and research.  After discussing pelvic and acetabular injuries in a case-based format Friday morning, we will be doing cadaveric pelvic and acetabular work in the afternoon.  Saturday will be similar with dissections of the lower extremity in the afternoon.  Sunday will be tibia and upper extremity case discussions.  Scrubs are fine to wear all day.  
The best part of the course is the case-based learning.

Objective 1: Be more familiar with open management of complex pelvic and lower extremity injuries via anatomic dissection.
Objective 2: Be more comfortable with less common and complicated injuries.
Objective 3: Be more comfortable with the decision making for complex traumatic injuries.

Complex per trochanteric femoral fractures (CPTFF) are common and complicated with osteoporosis, short segment fixation, muscle pull, and bone comminution/loss.  We describe predictable and successful plating and nailing tips and trips with cases.  Furthermore, we describe techniques for successful revision of complications especially nail cut out, poor start site, and varus/apex anterior deformity with or without leg length inequality

The course will be presented in four separate group modules, with approximately thirty residents and up to 5 expert faculty educators per module. The modules will have a rapid-fire series of mini-lectures, an extensive open case-based discussion, video demonstrations of techniques, and hands-on skills lab exercises. Target Audience: We encourage PGY 1-3’s to attend, as well as others who may benefit. PAs or NPs are welcome to attend, however, we request that any PAs or NPs attend the OTA Orthopaedic Trauma for PAs and NPs course prior.
